Mr. Huang Huahua
Governor of Guangdong Province
Chairman of the 26th Universiade Bidding Committee of Shenzhen
Respected FISU President George E. Killian,
Respected Secretary General Roch Campana,
Respected Members of the FISU Executive Committee,
As Governor of China’s Guangdong Province, I am most excited to be here in the beautiful city of Torino to experience this historic moment today. First of all, I wish to tell you that the Government of Guangdong Province will spare no effort in giving support to Shenzhen’s bid for the 26th Summer Universiade in 2011. It will honor all its commitments undertaken in the candidature dossier and pledges to render full support to help Shenzhen fulfill its promises in its bid for the universiade.
Since ancient times, Guangdong has been an important channel of China’s connection with the world. Today, as one of China’s top provinces with robust economic strength and prosperous life, Guangdong still exceeds other provinces in China’s extensive connection with the world. Guangdong boasts China’s largest Universiade City and ranks first among all provinces in China in terms of comprehensive sports capacity and level. Therefore, I’m fully confident about a successful universiade, to be held in Shenzhen in Guangdong Province.
Shenzhen, as the first special economic zone open to the world, has in a short span of 26 years created a miracle in China’s economic development. It is now one of China’s economic centers with the strongest comprehensive power. This young city not only boasts economic prosperity, environmental beauty and social harmony, but also beams with an enthusiasm for culture, education and sports. With a unique love of the Universiade sportsmanship, it is ready to make its contributions, through holding the Universiade, to promoting the popularization and development of Universiade in China and in the world at large. It is the common desire of not only the entire citizens of Shenzhen, but also the entire people of Guangdong Province, to hold the summer Universiade. It is my sincere hope that all the distinguished FISU members will not hesitate over the choice of our bid. We will be most delighted if we can welcome you all, our distinguished guests, in Shenzhen in 2011. I am convinced that, if you choose Shenzhen, you will witness a universiade of unprecedented scale and tremendous success, and you will also feel proud of making such a choice today!
Thank you!
