IT’S the second time Khim Sarith has visited Shenzhen’s International Cultural Industry Fair (ICIF).
In addition to being Secretary of State of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia, he is also a movie enthusiast, especially for Chinese blockbusters.
Movies featuring ancient Chinese costumes such as “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” starring internationally recognized actress Zhang Ziyi are among Sarith’s favorites.
“We have nine television stations in Cambodia and all broadcast Chinese films at night,” he told the Shenzhen Daily, saying that Chinese blockbusters meet Cambodians’ tastes.
He said that his country held its first film festival in 15 years in 2005, featuring recent Cambodian films.
“However, we don’t have any film or acting schools so far, and very little modern technology is applied to movie production,” said Sarith, who is also the country’s director of cinema and cultural development.
