“A CREATIVE design or product should fully reflect and be deeply rooted in the culture it represents, otherwise it will easily die,” Luigi Colani, a well-known German design master, told a forum organized by the Shenzhen Fiyta company Thursday.
Held in Hall 4, the Creative Design Hall of the third China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industry Fair (ICIF), the forum was considered an important event for the creative design industry, according to ICIF organizers. The forum is aimed at building a platform for exchanges between creative designers and to promote the city’s creative design industries.
“In watch design, Shenzhen should not follow Western countries, it should have its own designs showing their own characteristics, and compete with Western countries,” said Colani, who designed the world’s first BMW racing car.
“Creative ideas spark when we look back into history and our culture, just like a crane, the further you want to reach, the heavier you should be, otherwise you will lose your balance,” he said.
It is the first time organizers have set up a creative design hall at the ICIF.
