A Molten steel spill yesterday killed a workshop head in a Chongqing steel plant, the second such accident this month, the Chongqing Morning Post has reported.
The victim, Hu Daoming, is a workshop director in the Pingqiao Steel Rolling Plant in Wulong County. The spill of 1,500-degree-Celsius molten steel killed Hu at 7:30am.
Officials from the local government have set up an investigation group and attended the scene to handle the victim's funeral affairs.
An official of local work safety department said anyone found responsible for the tragedy will be severely punished.
The plant is a private company with capital of 40 million yuan (US$5.18 million) and more than 200 employees. Its annual production value exceeds 30 million yuan and annual capacity reaches 60,000 tons.
Its suspended operations a month ago because of a problem with capital, the report said.
The victim's family members are heading to Chongqing from neighboring Sichuan Province and the investigation is underway.
On April 18, a huge ladle of molten steel sheared off from a blast furnace and poured 30 tons of molten steel into a workshop at the Qinghe Special Steel Corp in Tieling City in Liaoning Province.
All 32 workers who were changing shifts in a nearby meeting room were engulfed by the 1,500-degree steel.
Families of the 32 victims will receive 271,940 yuan each in compensation from the steelmaker and the government.
