Hi-tech Talents
There were only two engineers in the early stage of the city's construction. Now Shenzhen boasts 610,000 professional technology experts. The number of talents rose to 96 from 2,000. By the end of 2004, over 6,500 overseas talents had been employed.
The number of hi-tech experts in Shenzhen grew rapidly. In 2004, the number of professional experts in the city was 663,400, of whom 233,700 were authorized with intermediate professional titles. Personnel involved in the development and production of hi-tech products totaled 60,000, accounting for 20 percent of the total work force.
Three large hi-tech halls had been built. In 2004, 68 popular science promotions were held, 20.73 million yuan was invested for 3.47 yuan per person.
