Output Value
Shenzhen posted 326.652 billion yuan in output value of hi-tech products in 2004, maintaining a high growth speed and expanding 31.6 percent from the year before if calculated in accordance with the current price. Of that, the hi-tech products with independent intellectual properties hit 185.309 billion yuan, up 33.4 percent more, accounting for 56.7 percent of the city's total industrial output value, 0.8 percent higher than the year before.
Enterprises
There were 1,742 certified hi-tech companies at the end of 2004, 21.06 percent higher than the year before. 2,352 hi-tech products were developed and manufactured, up 15.41 percent more than the year before.
Private Technology Firms
Of the 160,000 firms, the number of registered private technology enterprises totaled 100,000, accounting for over 60 percent with a capital exceeding 100 billion yuan, only second to that in Shanghai and Beijing. It has become an important force in the development of the economic society and a promising force in the future.
The private technology enterprises in Shenzhen were involved hi-tech fields like electronic information, bio-technology and new material development. Tycoon enterprises had emerged with an edge in the fierce competition. By the end of 2004, the number of registered private technology enterprises totaled 31,000, up 24 percent more than the previous year. Of that, 70 firms had an annual sales income over 100 million yuan, 42 percent higher than the year before. The exports totaled US$3 billion, covering more than 60 percent of the total exports of private technology enterprises in Guangdong Province.
