Don Rechtman, a musician from California, the U.S., has created a song for China to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

为庆祝中国共产党建党百年华诞，来自美国加州的音乐人Rechtman为中国创作了一首歌曲。

The song draws inspirations from stories about the Dongjiang Column of Guangdong People’s Guerilla Force Against Japanese Aggression and is a tribute to the people who fought bravely to create the peaceful, happy life we lead today. Its title “In March Azaleas Bloom All Over the Mountain” is the depiction of a scene often found at Wutong Mountain in March.

歌曲取材于广东人民抗日游击队东江纵队的故事，表达了音乐人对革命先辈们的崇敬之情。歌名《三月杜鹃开满山》表现了三月梧桐山杜鹃花开遍野的风景。

“In all my life, I’ve been looking for a government that was caring for the people, and I came across China. This is the kind of people, the kind of government, and the kind of place that I love,” said Rechtman. “My talent is in music, so I want to use that talent to share what I can with China and to show my appreciation for what they have given to me.”

“我毕生都在寻找一个关心人民的政府，而我遇到了中国。我热爱这片土地，喜欢这个国家的人民和政府。我擅长音乐，所以我想通过我擅长的事情，与中国分享我所能做的，表达我对中国的感激之情，” Rechtman说道。

The song-writing process started in February. Rechtman and his friends first tried remaking existing Chinese songs, but none of their versions were satisfying.

It was a visit to a 90-year-old veteran that inspired him to create an original song. During the visit, Rechtman was deeply moved by the revolutionary stories about the Dongjiang Column. He went home and wrote some lyrics based on the stories, which were then translated into Chinese. His friend Xiong Ying took the lyrics, fixed them and wrote a melody; Rechtman then started to edit the song. They recorded multiple versions, but the final version didn’t come out until late June.

后来，与一位90岁高龄东江纵队老兵的会面激发了Rechtman的创作灵感。在与老兵的谈话过程中，Rechtman被东江纵队的故事深深感动。他回家后根据这些故事写了一些歌词，后来，歌词被翻译成中文；他的朋友熊英对歌词进行了修改，并写了一段旋律；之后，Rechtman开始进行编曲。他们录制了多个版本，但最终版本直到6月底才完成。

“The song is about my love of China. It’s very good for expressing what I feel about this nation and about the people here,” said Rechtman.

“这首歌唱出了我对中国的爱。它很好地表达了我对这个国家和这里的人民的感情。"Rechtman说。

Born in a family where his parents did not encourage expressing feelings, Rechtman has found music a powerful tool to express himself from an early age. As he grew older, music has become an essential part in his life and even brought him to China in 2007. After staying in the country for 14 years, the American musician has grown deeply attached to China and its people.
